Fixed Broadband Wireless DSL Network - Luanda region of Angola

February 3, 2003 —Airspan Networks, Inc. a leading worldwide provider of fixed broadband wireless DSL networks, announced today that it has been awarded a $2 million order to provide its AS4000 wireless DSL solution to Telesel of Angola, one of only four carriers to be awarded a public telephony operator license by the government regulator, INACOM. Initially, Telesel will provide high-speed Internet and voice services to subscribers in the Luanda region, with expansion plans in place to serve the Benguela area by mid 2003 and other provinces at a rate of two to four provinces per year. The demand for broadband access is expected to be high with plans to service more than 9,000 subscribers in the first phase of the rollout.

With a population of 12 million, Angola's communications infrastructure has suffered largely by 25 years of civil war. Today, nationwide teledensity is less than 1.0 percent. With a strong rebuild emphasis by its current government, Angola looks to reclaim its pre-war position as the fastest-growing economy in Central Africa.
